Summary:
As of October 2024, Flink has an office-first attendance policy. However, we still offer HQ Flink employees the opportunity for mobile work. Flinkers who participate in mobile work should ensure they have a reliable internet connection and appropriate equipment to do their work. When working mobile, Flinkers simply need to update their slack and inform their managers, ensuring their team can plan accordingly.
All Flink HQ Employees can participate in mobile work; the schedule of days per week can vary from week to week. We define âMobile Workâ as working from a location of your choice within the country of your primary work (i.e., where your employment contract is issued). This includes working from home or other locations within that same country. By doing work within the country you are based, you are not liable for double taxation (and your health and accident insurance policy will not lapse).
Note: This is distinct from "Remote Work" or "Workations," which refer to working from a location outside of your country of employment and are subject to separate guidelines.
đ HQ Flink employees are defined as employees working within the HQ business. This does not include: regional managers, city managers, hub managers, shift leads, riders, pickers, or inventory associates.
We trust employees to manage this independently and to coordinate with their managers. The only exception to this are teams where office presence is required for their role (example: workplace management, hub care, people operations, etc), in which case, more effort in coordination is needed.
We are a young company and as such, we value having employees in the office to collaborate and foster a stronger culture. We will still encourage employees to be in office as much as possible and to do this, will continue to cultivate an office environment that drives ideation, creativity and of course - fun!
Employees that are based in another city will still also need to come into the office in alignment with the respective VP, covering the expenses of logistics and stay on their own. The exception to this would be regional buyers or managers who have roles that require their presence elsewhere.
By working mobile, you agree to:
Work during standard business hours or at a time approved by your Lead. Please make sure that you take sufficient periods of rest and observe the maximum limit of working time per day.
Have strong internet connectivity, ensuring productivity is not compromised. You are responsible for creating an environment that suits your work.
Coordinate with your Lead and ensure your presence is not needed within the office; this can be done via a shared team calendar, schedule or another method the team chooses.
Update your status on Slack to âMobile Workingâ by the beginning of the workday.
Office 1st - Policy Guidelines
What is the new office policy? We are an Office 1st company and believe in the strength of working together at the office. Therefore we launched our renewed office policy, and ask employees to work from the office at least 4 days a week.
Why is this policy being implemented? Weâve chosen for a 4-day in office week because we want to keep the flexibility thatâs been valued by many, while also creating more opportunities to connect, brainstorm, and problem-solve face-to-face. Thereâs nothing like the buzz of being in the office together, and we believe this balance will help us drive the innovation and momentum that will define our next chapter.
Who does this policy apply to? This policy applies to all office employees (except employees that have been hired as remote).
Can I choose which days to work in the office? Yes, employees may choose which days they work in the office, provided they are in the office for 4 days each week. However, the days should align with team schedules and availability for meetings. Managers may set specific in-office days if necessary for team operations.
What should I do if I am unable to come to the office for 4 days a week? If you have a valid reason preventing you from working 4 days in the office, please speak to your manager. They will review your situation and provide guidance.
What happens if I donât comply with the policy? If youâre constantly missed in the office it will be addressed by your manager. Collaboration is a central part of our company culture and will be assessed as part of your performance review.
What if I feel unwell? If you feel unwell, do not come into the office. Notify your manager and follow the companyâs sick leave procedures. Depending on your health, working from home may be an option.
Will there be changes to the office? Weâre working on increasing the meeting room and quiet zones to ensure that everyone has the right environment to collaborate and work effectively. Additionally, we are exploring ways to improve the office experience to ensure that being in the office supports both professional and personal well-being.
What if I have personal commitments on certain days? In case you have an adhoc personal commitment which may affect your in-office attendance, notify your manager. Managers will provide flexibility on a case-by-case basis.
Will there be additional team-building events or activities in the office? Yes, during the in-office days, we plan to host optional team-building activities and meetings to foster collaboration and strengthen relationships within the team. This includes:
Friday Flink Breakfast @Berlin office
Dutch Lunch @Amsterdam office
Friday drinks
Cultural events/get togethers (Diwali, Christmas Market, Mettwoch, etc.)
Further initiatives are welcomed! If you would like to host a get-together or an event, please send your suggestions to [email protected]
