Remote Work Guidelines

We are excited to offer the opportunity of remote work - i.e. working from outside the country you are based within - to Flinkers in our global HQ offices.

Each HQ Flinker is allowed to spend up to 30 work days per year working outside of the country you are based in. You are not required to use any or all of the allotted days, but you also won’t be able to carry the days over to the following year. This benefit will be activated for HQ Flinkers once they have reached their 6 month anniversary at Flink.

You can use up to 3 weeks of remote work at a time. When coordinating remote work - particularly if done in combination with vacation - we trust you and your lead to act in the best interest of the company, being mindful that we are still a young company with an office first culture.

Steps for booking Remote Work

  • Step 1: Request remote work through SAP "Request Time Off" like you would for your sick leave. Make sure to request your remote work at least 4 weeks in advance.

  • Step 2: Choose for the "Time Type" -> Remote Work and fill in the remaining mandatory fields.

  • Step 3: The decision of approval of your remote work is up to your Manager. Once your Manager approved the remote work in SAP, you are ready to book your travel. We advise you to purchase travel insurance and any other measures to safeguard your trip.

  • Step 4: Inform your team; add it to a team calendar.

  • Step 5: Update your Slack status to “Working Remotely” when you are away. And enjoy!

What should I keep in mind when preparing to work remotely?

  • Educate yourself whether registration, residence and/or a work permit is required where you plan to work remotely; apply accordingly.

  • Ensure you have a stable internet connection, are available online and reachable by email during working hours.

  • While working abroad, please note that the national regulations, e.g. the German Working Hours Act are to be followed; overtime hours need to be recorded and forwarded daily. Additionally, you will need to observe the applicable regulations on working hours in the country where your remote work takes place, especially if they are more restrictive. You will be responsible for seeking this information in advance.

  • Making the choice to work remotely is up to you and predominantly in your interest. Regardless of this, the office will always remain a place for you to work. Therefore, there will be no reimbursement of expenses or costs you incur while away. This includes but is not limited to: travel costs, residence costs, additional insurances, telephone and internet connection.

  • We want to be sure you know that the usual protection provided by statutory accident insurance is not guaranteed abroad, which is why we strongly recommend looking into private accident insurance for your country of destination.

  • In some countries, you cannot receive medical support (using your health insurance) if you are not in the local social security system. So please register yourself with the local social security system and foreign health insurance if needed.

  • You will comply with the requirements of the relevant provisions of occupational health and safety as applicable from time to time. We will instruct you accordingly.

  • Friendly reminder: all Internal IT and confidentiality regulations continue to apply when away.

  • Finally, while working remotely, you should not be holding business meetings in person with clients or partners. If you have to go abroad due to business reasons, please consult with your Lead for approval for a business trip.

We reserve the right to exclude Flinkers from remote work, if their scope of work requires office attendance. HQ Flink employees are defined as employees working within the HQ business. This does not include: regional managers, city managers, hub managers, shift leads, riders, pickers, and inventory associates.
