Flink is certified under ISO 50001, the international standard for energy management. The certification is not just a label: it commits us to measuring our energy use, setting reduction targets, and proving every year that our hubs actually work towards them. As Hub Manager you are the person who makes that real on site.

Keeping the certification gives us regulatory compliance with evolving EU energy rules, protects us from fines, builds real awareness of what we consume, and gives us a competitive advantage we can use in sustainability communication.

Losing it is expensive. Without ISO 50001 status we fall out of compliance with EU energy regulation and face penalties in the range of €50,000 to €100,000. The certification is renewed through external audits, and those audits look at hubs.

We have committed to reducing our energy consumption by 2% by the end of 2026 and 10% by 2030. The first is achieved through hub rebuilds and day-to-day operational discipline; the second is a network-wide transformation.

Compared to standard fridges, cooling tunnels consume half the energy and hold temperature far more reliably. The rollout runs through hub rebuilds and replacements: 5 priority hubs fully equipped in 2026, scaling to 50 hubs by 2030.

Equipment alone will not get us there, though. The physical upgrade sets the floor; behaviour in the hub decides whether we hit the target.

Ahead of every audit cycle you receive a questionnaire. Completing it is mandatory — we cannot certify without it. Please treat the deadline as a hard one.

Internal site audits are completed before every scheduled external ISO 50001 audit. They exist to catch gaps while we can still fix them, so an honest answer is worth more than a tidy one.

Auditors can ask anyone on site. You and your team should be able to explain our Energy Policy, our reduction targets, and the correct use of our Significant Energy Users (SEUs) — the equipment that accounts for most of our consumption, above all cooling and air conditioning.
