This guide provides you with the main topics you need to properly manage accidents: recommendations for the onboarding of hub employees on accident management, how to behave after an accident, how to report an accident and insurance information.
This guide is important so you know how to to keep your employees informed on accident procedures and how to act in case of an accident. Additionally, we are legally obligated to document all accidents, no matter how small.
Recommendations for onboarding employees on accident management
Inform employees about our accident insurance. Many foreign employees don't know the legal procedures in Germany. See the insurance information under Liability Insurance.
Explain that self-inflicted accidents and damage to third-parties must be reported. This is necessary because the employees often don’t know that the employer pays for the damages.
Reinforce that the employees must not be afraid to report the damages.
What to do after an accident
Assess the health state of the employee. Make sure they are out of danger and if they hold any injuries.
If necessary, provide first-aid. Read the standard first-aid procedure in the picture below:
If the employee needs to go to the hospital, call an ambulance. The emergency number in Europe is 112.
Restore the order in the Hub after the accident.
In case of traffic accidents, wait for the police.
If possible, inform the Hub and take photos of the accident site.
If applicable, write down the contact information of all witnesses and counterparties.
If the counterparties show up in the hub, write down their contact information.
If the counterparties ask for our contact information, give them the email [email protected]
Report the accident to HQ. See how to below.
Reporting the accident
This process is valid for the following accidents:
Minor accident: employee can work, no medical assistance required
Major accident: employee can't work, needs medical assistance
1. After following the procedure above, report the accident in the first-aid book.
Important:
A copy of the first-aid book must be present in the hub so Shift Leads can report any type of accident, including major and minor accidents with minimal injuries.
2. Inform the employee that they need to report the accident via this form.
They must name the form clearly and fill in all the fields.
In case of damage to counterparties, provide the counterparties' and the witnesses' contact details.
Important:
If you receive any letters from BGHW or other parties, or if the counterparties go to the hub and leave their information, scan the letters and write down the contact information of the counterparties. Next, send the letters and the counterparties' contact information to the People OPs Team at [email protected].
