Process
What to check before your ride
Tires: ensure the tires are sufficiently inflated. You can do this by applying pressure on the tire with your hand. It should feel sufficiently inflated.
2. Wheels: ensure the front and back wheels are securely tight. Lift the front wheel by grabbing the fork and shaking it from side to side. Repeat the process for the back wheel. Both of them should stay relatively in place during this movement.
Ensure the fender is tight. Move it from side to side to check if it’s stable.
3. Brakes: ensure your brakes are working efficiently:
If the bike has two brake levers: Squeeze the left brake lever to activate the front brake and rock the bike forwards and backwards. Repeat the process for the back brake by squeezing the right brake lever.
If the bike has one brake lever: Squeeze the existing brake lever to activate the front brake and rock the bike forwards and backwards. To check the back brake, ride the bike for a few seconds normally and start pedaling backwards at some point.
Important:
The bike should remain firmly in place on both occasions.
4. Lights: ensure the front and back lights are working properly. The lights are controlled on the display on the handlebar. After turning on the system, make sure to turn the lights on as well.
5. Chain: ensure the chain is lubricated. Hop on the bike for a few seconds and listen for any squeaking sounds coming from the chain.
6. Handlebar: ensure the handlebar is correctly aligned. Lock the front wheel between your knees, loosen up the stem and move it left to right. After performing this movement, the stem should come back to the center and be perfectly aligned with the wheel.
7. Battery: ensure the battery is fully charged.
8. Saddlebags and box: ensure these items are securely attached to your bike. Tighten any loose mounting screws or replace broken industrial-grade zip ties if necessary (not applicable for all hubs).
Important:
You can ask for spare mounting parts and tools to your Shift Lead or Hub Manager. For mounting instructions, scan the QR-code on the mounting plate.
9. Box cushion: ensure the box has an impact cushion. This will help to avoid glass items from breaking during your ride (not applicable for all hubs).
Important:
If any of the bike’s features are not complying with these instructions, do not use it. Fetch a new bike and repeat the check-up process. Report any issues to your Shift Lead.
Adjust the bike according to your needs
Saddle: ensure the saddle’s height and position are appropriate for you. The saddle should be at your hip level. When sitting on it, your knee should have a slight bend while your foot is resting flat on the pedal. To adjust it, open the quick release lever and bring the saddle to the desired position. Do not pull the saddle over the marked line.
2. Saddlebags: ensure there is a 15cm clearance between the pedals and the saddlebags. Reposition the saddlebags to your needs by adjusting the velcro straps. This is to ensure that you pedal comfortably without hitting the saddlebags with your feet.
Important:
For mounting instructions, scan the QR code found on the mounting plate or on the inside of the equipment.
3. Ergonomics: your body should sit upright. Make sure you are not hunching over the handlebar or sitting too low. When sitting on the saddle, your back should be straight.
Packing the shopping bags on your bike
Distribute the weight evenly. Make sure the weight feels evenly distributed between all the bags you carry. This will ensure a more comfortable and controllable ride for you.
Pack the shopping bags properly on your bike:
Place the heaviest shopping bags in the saddlebags. The heaviest items, such as bottles, must go on the sides of your bike. This will provide you with higher stability.
Important:
Pay attention to the bags with fragile products, such as eggs. These must be handled with special care.
FAQ
Do NOT mount your bags like in the following picture to the front of the bike. This leads to breaking the brake fluid hoses, damages the bikes, excess downtime and increased maintenance costs.
Why is it important?
Visual checks of the bikes are indispensable before a shift to ensure maximum safety for Riders and to decrease the amount of accidents caused by damaged bikes or faulty mounting of equipment (e.g. saddlebags and boxes).
