How to brake properly

Slippery roads = dangerous mistakes. Here's how to brake the right way:

  • Use both brakes — but start with the back.
→ Rear brake first, then gently apply the front.
→ Never slam the front brake on its own — this can launch you off the bike.

  • Brake earlier in rain or snow.
→ Wet roads need more time to stop safely.
→ Start slowing down before corners or intersections.

  • Shift your weight back slightly.
→ Helps balance your center of gravity and avoids skidding.

  • Stay off the brakes while turning.
→ Brake before the turn, not during.
