Storing bio and premium bananas

In this guide, you find all the guidelines necessary to properly store bio and premium bananas at the hub.

This guide is important, so Hub Managers (HM), Shift Leads (SL) and Ops Associate Plus (OA+) comply with the legal requirements of storing, picking, handling and delivering bio and premium bananas.

Below you find storage guidelines for bio and premium bananas, as well as picking requirements for bio bananas.

Storing bio and premium bananas

Bananas are vulnerable items and their quality is highly dependent on the stacking conditions. As such, ensure that you follow the storage rules described in the following dropdowns.

Bio bananas

Bio bananas are our only organic/bio products with no packages, so they must be stored separately from conventional products. This is to abide to BIO regulations, as we must ensure they never mix with other products, especially conventional bananas. The storage guidelines are the following:

  • Remove the bananas from the delivery boxes and place them in GREEN (CBL23) crates.

  • Ensure that all plastic was removed.

  • Label the green crates clearly with a BIO sticker label.

  • Do not store them in a shelf with other products or close to regular bananas. This is especially important to ensure that no cross contamination occurs.

  • When picking, you must pack them in a separate Flink bag before placing it with other products from the order.

  • Use the First In First Out (FIFO) principle with new deliveries.

Premium bananas

Premium bananas are our regular fairtrade bananas. You don't need to store them separately from other products. However, to prolong their shelf life, we need to store them correctly. The storage guidelines are the following:

  • Remove the bananas from the delivery boxes and place them in black crates.

  • Ensure that all plastic was removed.

  • Label the black crates clearly with a fairtrade logo label.

  • Stack the crates on top of each other.

  • Use the First In First Out (FIFO) principle with new deliveries.

Important:

If there's not enough space on the shelf or fridge, store the products on the top shelf of the rack. Otherwise, store the products in the backstock shelves or cold house.

Picking

Picking bio bananas for delivery

When picking bio bananas for delivery, we must ensure that, during the delivery process, there is no cross contamination. To avoid it, place bio bananas in a seperate bag when picking.
In the event of leakages caused by other products, all products must be returned to the hub and re-picked.
