Storing dry and fresh/frozen products

This guide describes the guidelines to store dry and fresh products.

It's important that Ops Associates (OA), Ops Associate Plus (OA+), Shift Leads (SL) and Hub Managers (HM) are aware of these guidelines and enforce them in their daily operations, so that we can maximize the shelf life of our products and reduce waste. The storage of these products must also be enforced during the inbound process.

Below you find guidelines that apply to both dry and fresh products, fruits and vegetables, frozen products and bakery products.

General guidelines

  • Store the products for the Ops Associate’s visibility. The articles should be placed in neat rows with their labels clearly visible.

  • Respect the number of facings in HubOne app. For example, if the HubOne app shows 2 facings, this means you need to place the handling or single units in 2 rows.

  • Ideally, store the items in the original handling unit’s packaging. This keeps the shelf organized and clean, facilitating picking activities.

    Handling unit packaging

  • Respect the FIFO principle. FIFO stands for first in, first out. Always place the older dry and fresh products in the front of the shelf and the new ones in the back.

Fruits and vegetables

  • Keep fruits and vegetables in crates: for food safety matters, do not place fruits and vegetables directly on the shelves and fridges.

    IFCO boxes

Frozen products

  • Do not place different products on top of each other. Ensure that everything is immediately recognisable, so that you pick products faster.

  • Use the grids in the freezers to ensure nothing is stored at the bottom or near the edges.

  • Do not store anything above the red mark, as this can cause the products to thaw and no longer be suitable for sale.

  • Do not store pizza vertically, but horizontally, as shown in the picture:

Bakery products

  • Never store boxes of unpackaged baked goods directly on the floor. This is to comply with food safety requirements.

  • In order to keep the shelves tidy and facilitate picking, store the bakery products in IFCO-boxes.

  • Since bakery products come with an opaque package, we suggest printing pictures with the same name as in the Zebra or the label. Place the picture on the corresponding box:
