Setting up and managing the battery cabinet

This guide outlines the essential information needed to set up and manage battery cabinets safely and comply with PGS 37-2 regulations. It ensures Ops Associate Plus (OA+), Shift Leads (SL), and Hub Managers (HM) understand how to store batteries and set up the cabinet to prevent fire hazards and electrical overloads.

Storage capacity

  • Max capacity per cabinet:

  • 333kg of lithium batteries

  • 30 kg of damaged / broken batteries

  • Weight limit per shelf: maximum 75 kg

General storage rules

  • Store batteries on top of the shelves; do not stack them.

  • Tie cables and chargers securely at the bottom of shelves using cable ties, Velcro, or hairbands.

  • Ensure battery cables are tied to prevent dangling and pushed through the second or third shelf opening to avoid damage.

  • Cables must not obstruct the doors or prevent them from closing correctly.

  • Avoid stacking chargers or batteries, as this can cause overheating and fire hazards.

Battery storage and charging guidelines

Cycle / Smartvelo batteries

  • Shelves 1-4: 4 batteries charging (+4 in storage) per shelf.

  • Shelf 5: reserved for broken batteries.

  • Drawer: additional space for broken batteries.

Cycle / Smartvelo + scooter batteries

  • Shelves 1-3: 4 cycle/smartvelo batteries charging (+4 in storage) per shelf.

  • Shelves 4-5: 2 scooter batteries charging (+1 in storage) per shelf.

    • Do not store more than 4 scooter batteries per shelf.

    • Remove the drawer to store broken Cycle LT, Cycle LTX & Smartvelo batteries.

Scooter batteries

  • Shelves 1-2: Keep empty.

  • Shelves 3-5: 3 scooter batteries charging (+1 in storage) per shelf.

    • Store broken scooter batteries on the same shelf as charging batteries, clearly labeled.

Important:

  • Do not store more than 4 scooter batteries per shelf.

  • Do not charge more than 3 scooter batteries per shelf or more than 10 scooter batteries per cabinet simultaneously.

See the charging guidelines for scooter batteries here.

Cabinet safety

General safety guidelines

  • The cabinet doors must always close automatically and fully.

  • Never force the doors to close manually or faster than their automatic system allows.

  • Keep cabinet doors closed at all times unless actively accessing the batteries.

  • Ensure no cables block the doors from closing correctly.

  • If a door is broken:

    • Lock it until repaired.

    • Report the issue via the #nl_hub_managers Slack channel workflow.

If there is an issue with the cabinet doors, submit it on the #nl_hub_managers Slack channel.

Place the following print outs on the inside of your battery cabinet. Ensure that you choose the correct set up based on the different batteries that you use.

By adhering to these guidelines, you can ensure the safe and efficient use of your Asecos battery cabinets.

Maintenance and reporting

  • Annual maintenance: conducted by Denios, indicated by a sticker on the upper left side of the cabinet.

  • Repair prioritizations:

    • Within 1 day: detached or broken doors.

    • Within 2 months: damaged door arms requiring manual closing but still functional.

    • During annual maintenance: damaged door arms requiring manual closing but still functional. It is advised to keep this door closed and use as little as possible.

  • During annual maintenance: flex band issues, alignment problems, and broken or missing shelves.

  • Hub to repair: Broken shelves - move the shelf up or down and reattach with screws. Screws can be bought at any hardware shop. * Make sure to not exceed the shelf weight limit of 75kg.

  • Reporting issues:

    • Create a ticket in the #nl_hub_manager Slack channel.

FAQ

Lost cabinet keys

Your cabinet is equipped with 2 universal keys identical to other hubs' keys. If you lose both of them, contact the nearest hub and make copies of their cabinet keys at your local key shop.

Power outage

When there is a power outage:

  1. Unplug the battery cabinet.

  2. Unplug all the chargers inside the battery cabinet.

  3. Check the meterkast.

  4. Be sure that all the switches are on.

  5. Plug the battery cabinet in again.

  6. Be sure that ventilation is working and the green light is ON.

  7. Start to plug the batteries in one by one. Plug in one battery, wait 20 seconds, then proceed to the next one and wait again.

  8. Since the power consumption is too high right now, it is better to use fewer chargers than usual.

  9. Instead of charging 15 batteries at the same time, charge 8-9. If everything goes fine, try to add one more charger.

  10. If the system is tripping, or if you face a power outage again, start again from step 1, follow the same steps, and charge fewer batteries.
